Oso Mudslide covers Whitehorse Trail

View Whitehorse Trail in a larger map

This map shows some of the impact area of the March 22nd landslide east of Oso Washington.  The purple line shows the boundary of the earth slide.  The light blue line shows the extent of water that has flooded land above the slide.  Many homes and families have been catastrophically affected.  Currently the area is the focus of a large recovery and survey process.  It will be some time before many long term plans are developed.

This map is provided as a possible source for people to see the area of impact.  Here is a very good photo graphic from the Seattle Times: Photo slider before and after

The Whitehorse trail is covered with earth for something in the range of 8/10ths of a mile and the water impoundment above the slide is over the land for more than a mile east of that.

There are a number of relief funds and efforts in progress.  We will share this one from the local Coastal Community Bank:

We are accepting donations at all branches for the North Counties Relief Fund to benefit 530 Mudslide victims.
The Stanwood Camano Area Foundation will be accepting credit card donations on line on behalf of the Darrington Recreational & Education Foundation.
